Life after a stroke can be difficult. Even when outpatient treatment is completed, there are still many steps needed in order to complete the healing process. That’s where this new program come in.
Bay Cliff’s Stroke Survivors Wellness Retreat focuses on improving the overall health & quality of life after experiencing a stroke. This program is for individuals living in the Upper Peninsula who have survived a stroke and are livinga at home or in a nursing facility and are completed with any outpatient treatment or home-health care, as well as their caregivers.
Participants individualize the program by selecting a combination of sessions to meet their specific needs. Educational sessions, taught by local and national health care professionals, assist stroke survivors in learning more about life after treatment and leading a healthier lifestyle. These sessions are led by Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, and other medical professionals.
There are opportunities to exercise and recreational activities to enjoy throughout the week. All activities will be adapted to each participant’s functional ability level. Overlooking Lake Superior in the beautiful north woods, Bay Cliff is known as “a place apart” offering an ideal setting for relaxation and renewal.
This year’s retreat will be September 12-16. Thanks to a generous grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, this program is free of charge to the participants and their caregivers, and includes comfortable housing accommodations and home cooked meals. Please note that space is limited! You are encouraged to turn in your application as soon as possible. The deadline for applying is September 4. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for a future retreat, please contact us.
We were pleased to see a wellness retreat for polio survivors, modeled after Bay Cliff’s Post-Polio Wellness Retreat, take place in Warm Springs, Georgia. Post-Polio Health International organized the event, which served polio survivors from around the world! A physician in Colorado attended our retreat in 2013 and Colorado Post Polio Organization offered a health & wellness camp in Colorado in 2014! It is our hope that this new retreat for stroke survivors will inspire others to provide new wellness retreat experiences in their home area. If this is something that interests you, we encourage you to think about attending one of our retreats. Sharing information is a way we can help provide a wellness retreat opportunity to even more polio survivors, and we’re glad to do so. Let us know if this interests you!
